Search Engine Optimisation

What exactly is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?  SEO is the process which involves making sure that a website is designed in such a way that makes it as easy as possible for search engines to know what the website is about.  If Google isn't sure what your website is about, it can never rank your website highly.

SEO can be very complex and there is always speculation about the algorithms that Google uses and what you can do to help your website rank higher.  Plus Google constantly makes updates to this algorithm and a site that was ranking well yesterday might not be ranking well today.

What SEO Do You Do?

I do all the basic, essential SEO that a website should have.  The world of SEO is full of jargon so to simplify I make sure that:

  • All the headings on the website are correctly labelled at the back end of your website.  This means that search engines know which are the most important ones.
  • Make sure that the correct words (called keywords) and text are added in the correct place for search results.  This means that when your site does start to rank, visitors are more likely to click and visit your site.
  • Label images at the back end so that search engines know what the images are about.  Google has no idea what an image shows, unless you tell it.
  • Make the layout as search engine friendly as possible
  • Advise you on how to optimise your content.
  • Send your new websites to search engines to be indexed.  Thousands of new websites go online every single day.  If you don't tell search engines about your new site, it will take much longer for them to find it.

Do I Need to do SEO Myself?

That depends.  If you want to head towards the first page of Google, then yes.  Either that, or ask me for a quote to do it for you.  There are some very basic things that you can do to help your website rank better and these won't take up much of your time.  I will explain what these are when your website is finished, as each site will need a slightly different strategy.

One thing that I will always recommend though is to keep adding good quality content to your website and updating your website regularly, as Google loves this.  Luckily, this is really easy with the Content Management System that I use.  Adding content to your website couldn't be easier.  And of course I'm always here to help.
